Castlewood Canyon State Park – Franktown CO

castlewood canyon shows it's fall folilage Franktown ColoradoFranktown is know for this beautiful state park that extends all along Parker Road to Castle Rock.  The park says this week it’s fall foliage is on display so hurry before the next snow.

You can also rock climb, hike, go birdwatching or horseback ride.  There are even facilities for meetings, weddings and receptions.

The Outdoor Education at Castlewood Canyon is extensive.

With 2,303 acres of important wildlife habitat, local history and spectacular natural scenery, the park is a natural outdoor classroom.  The  environmental programs are created with state standards in mind and are presented by park staff or trained volunteer naturalists.

Naturalist-Guided Educational Programs

  • Cycles Go Round: PreK – 3rd grades
    Length:2 ½ hours. Learn about how nature is constantly reusing and recycling.
  • Was it Really the Good Ole’ Days? 3rd-6th grades
    Length 21/2 Hours. Join in a wagon train traveling the Cherokee Trail in hopes of homesteading the Colorado Territory.
  • Home Sweet Habitat: 3rd – 6th grades
    Length:2 ½ hours. Learn about who calls Castlewood home.
  • Rock -n- Roll: 3rd – 8th grades
    Length:2 ½ hours. Become a rock detective and search for the 3 types of rocks in Castlewood Canyon.
  • Webs of Life: 3rd – 6th grades
    Length:2 ½ hours. Discover the four different ecosystems in Castlewood Canyon.
  • Skins & Skulls: All ages
    Length:45 minutes. Meet the wild animals of Castlewood Canyon up close!

Reservations required for naturalist guided hikes, as well as, self guided trips. Please call, at least, 30 days in advance of your visit. We are already receiving reservations for spring, so book early! Call 303.688.5242 to make your reservation.
